National Garden Week - Every Home Needs A Garden!

Saturday, June 1st marks the start of National Garden Week, and in honor of this we wanted to share some reasons why every home needs a garden, and some of our favorite gardens in and around the Los Angeles area.

If you've been following our blog then you know we gave out a bunch of handy gardening tips a few weeks ago for Earth Day. You can find that blog post here: Earth Day Tips for Your Garden.

Why Every Home Needs a Garden

According to a recent NY Post survey, 1 in 4 respondents have been so put off by the sight of a neighbor’s outdoor space they’ve had to ask them to clean up their yard. We all lead busy lives, and it's easy to drop the gardening ball. If your front fence is dirty, and your regular gardener has let the leaves and weeds pile up, call us today to sparkle it!

That same study found that having a nice garden, along with a maintained yard, is one of the best ways to increase your home's curb appeal, increasing the value of the property and the sense of community within a neighborhood.

But what about some other benefits of gardening?

A study published in The Journal of Health Psychology found that gardening served as a better stress reliever than reading. After introducing a stressful task to test subjects, researchers had one group garden, and another group read. The garden test group had a higher physical response in lowered stress hormone levels, as well as less overall stress, as compared to the reading test group.

Getting to spend time outdoors is a key benefit of gardening. Spending time in nature and nurturing growth and beauty promotes a sense of well being, elevates moods and reduces anxiety, especially in older adults.
